# 25 an hour is how much a year? Hourly to salary

25 an hour is 52,000 a year before tax if you work 40 hours a week all year. That is 4,333.33 a month and 1,000 a week. For any other pay, multiply the hourly pay by the hours you work in a week, then by 52, or type your own numbers in the hourly to salary calculator.

## How do you convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?

Hourly pay × hours a week × weeks a year. A full-time year is 40 hours for 52 weeks, which is 2,080 hours, so a full-time salary is your hourly pay times 2,080.

A quick way to do it in your head: double the hourly pay and add three zeros. 25 an hour becomes 50,000. That counts 2,000 hours, so the real figure is a little higher: 52,000.

## How much is 20, 25 or 30 an hour a year?

At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, before tax:

| An hour | A year | A month | A week |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 | 31,200 | 2,600 | 600 |
| 18 | 37,440 | 3,120 | 720 |
| 20 | 41,600 | 3,466.67 | 800 |
| 22 | 45,760 | 3,813.33 | 880 |
| 25 | 52,000 | 4,333.33 | 1,000 |
| 30 | 62,400 | 5,200 | 1,200 |
| 35 | 72,800 | 6,066.67 | 1,400 |
| 40 | 83,200 | 6,933.33 | 1,600 |
| 50 | 104,000 | 8,666.67 | 2,000 |

## Why is a month of pay more than four weeks of pay?

Because a month is longer than four weeks. A year has 52 weeks and 12 months, so an average month holds 4.33 weeks. At 1,000 a week, four weeks bring 4,000 but the average month brings 4,333.33.

If you are paid every week or every two weeks, this shows up as extra paydays. Paid every two weeks, you get 26 paydays in a year: two a month for ten months, and three in the other two. Build your monthly plan on two paydays, and decide ahead where the third one goes. The steps are in [the best way to split your salary](/blog/how-to-split-your-salary).

## How much is each payday on 25 an hour?

It depends on how often you are paid. On 52,000 a year:

| Paid | Pay periods a year | Each payday, before tax |
|---|---|---|
| Every week | 52 | 1,000 |
| Every two weeks | 26 | 2,000 |
| Twice a month | 24 | 2,166.67 |
| Once a month | 12 | 4,333.33 |

Every two weeks and twice a month sound the same and are not: 26 smaller paydays against 24 larger ones.

## What if you work fewer hours or take unpaid weeks off?

Change the hours and the weeks. The answer moves more than people expect:

- **Part time, 25 hours a week** at 25 an hour: 32,500 a year, 2,708.33 a month.
- **Two unpaid weeks off** at 40 hours: 50,000 a year, 4,166.67 a month. Each unpaid week costs one week of pay, here 1,000.

Paid holidays change nothing: count them as weeks worked.

If your hours change from week to week, do the sum twice, once for a slow week and once for a good one, and plan on the slow one. [Budgeting on irregular income](/blog/best-budget-apps-for-irregular-income) shows how.

## How do you turn a yearly salary into hourly pay?

Divide by the hours you work in a year. For full time that is 2,080:

| A year | An hour |
|---|---|
| 40,000 | 19.23 |
| 50,000 | 24.04 |
| 60,000 | 28.85 |

This is useful when you compare a salaried job with an hourly one. A salary that expects 45 hours a week pays less per hour than the same salary at 40.

## Is this before or after tax?

Before. Tax and other deductions depend on where you live and on your situation, so no single sum fits everyone. Your payslip has the real figure.

Use the yearly number to compare jobs. Use what arrives in your account to plan your month: that is the amount you can divide between giving, bills, savings and debt. If you have never done that, start with [your first budget](/blog/how-to-make-your-first-budget).
